Penn State tight end Tyler Warren earns Big Ten player of the week honors after big outing at Purdue
Penn State tight end Tyler Warren is the Big Ten player of the week on offense. The senior earned the honor after yet another do-it-all performance in 2024. This one came at Purdue. The Nittany Lion caught eight passes for 127 yards and a score. He also rushed three times for 63 yards and a touchdown. The Virginia native led the Lions and rushing and receiving in the 49-10 win.
“Tyler Warren continues to just make plays in a ton of different ways,” Lions coach James Franklin said after the win. “Like I mentioned before, I think he’s part of the conversation of one of the best players in all of college football, let alone the tight end position.
“I stated it earlier in the year, [and] I stated it tonight: I think Tyler Warren should be a part of all the conversations that deal with the best football player in college football. I don’t think it’s a question. And that’s all of those types of awards, including the Heisman.”
Warren earned his second Big Ten player of the week honor. He continues to draw praise locally and nationally for his outstanding season. To date, he is a finalist for the Paul Hornung Award and semifinalist for the Mackey Award and Walter Camp Player of the Year Award. Making it to New York for the Heisman Trophy ceremony may be a bridge too far. But, don’t put it past his teammates to campaign for it.

“100 percent,” Lions quarterback Drew Allar said. “Tyler doesn’t like being in the spotlight a lot, but he’s going to do whatever it is to put the team in the best position to win. That’s him blocking every play, he’ll do that. That’s him throwing the ball, he’ll do that. If that’s him running the ball, he’ll do that. If that’s him catching the ball in the pass game, he’ll do that. I don’t think you’ve seen a tight end have an overall impact on an offense like he’s had this year. I think it’s a really special year that he’s having and I would absolutely endorse Tyler Warren for Heisman in 2024.”
Warren currently has 67 receptions for 808 yards and five touchdowns. He also has 16 carries for 157 yards and four scores. And, he has completed 2 of 4 passes for 26 yards and a score.
