Penn State updates for Tuesday, March 8 include bad news from the transfer portal, potentially good news on the staffing front, and much more.

We’re diving into the top tweets and headlines of the day about the Nittany Lions and college football. Let’s get to it.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with the transfer portal.

Penn State was hoping to hose North Texas twins Grayson and Gabriel Murphy for an official visit. That won’t happen, however. The defenders both committed to UCLA on Monday. It ended a pursuit for many schools, including the Lions.

Penn State will continue looking for transfer portal help at defensive end and linebacker. But, the list of options is quite bare as spring practice nears on March 21. If the Lions are going to make an addition, it will have to happen after the spring semester and before fall camp.

In other news, FootballScoop reports that Penn State is closing in on adding another off-field staffer.

The outlet says that James Franklin is closing in on hiring CFL scout Rashad Rich.

“It’s expected that Rich will serve a key capacity for Penn State in working directly with high school coaches as well as closely monitoring the Portal for potential additions to the Nittany Lions’ roster,” John Brice writes.

Franklin has made adding off-field staff a priority this offseason. The Lions added Rashad Elby as a recruiting coordinator and have brought multiple analysts into the fold.
