Penn State Q&A: Cam Sullivan-Brown talks Malick Meiga, Liam Clifford, Harrison Wallace III, and more
Penn State receiver Cam Sullivan-Brown has become a reliable option for the Nittany Lions’ passing attack this fall.
The fifth-year senior from Bowie, Md., hasn’t blown up the stat sheet, as he’s only netted four receptions for 44 yards. Still, he’s easily the most-utilized receiver after Jahan Dotson, Parker Washington, and KeAndre Lambert-Smith, which is a sign that he’s gained the trust of both the staff and his teammates.
Sullivan-Brown spoke with reporters on Tuesday ahead of Saturday’s game at Maryland (3:30 p.m., FS1). He discussed how Penn State can end a three-game skid, the idea of playing in his home state, three young receivers, and much more. He’s the focus of this week’s Penn State Q&A.
Question: How excited are you to go back home and play at Maryland?
Cam Sullivan-Brown: “I mean, I’m excited to go back home, but I’m really just focused on getting the win. It’s not really about me too much.
“I’m excited to go back home and see some of my family that comes to the game, but most importantly, what’s going to make it much better is if we come back with a win.“
Q: What were the takeaways from the Ohio State game on offense?
CSB: “We just got to take advantage of the opportunities that we had, and we can’t look too much into the past. We got what we needed to do and got it corrected on Sunday, and we are going to take advantage of those opportunities this week.

Q: Can you peel back the curtain a bit on Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford and how passionate he is?
CSB: “Sean is a passionate leader. He wants to win every game, and it means a lot to him, and I see the way that he prepares behind the scenes. He invests so much into the game, and that’s why it means so much to him. He’s an emotional guy, but that’s what you want from a quarterback.”
Q: We heard from Coach Franklin late last week about Malick Meiga making some strides since he came back from an injury? Can you kind of see behind the scenes? What kind of talent Malik is and maybe where you can go in the next month back healthy?
CSB: “Malick is a freak of nature. He can run fast. He’s big. He’s strong. The sky’s the limit from a Malick. When he came back, he showed flashes of exactly what he can be. He’s like one of the fastest people that we have. He’s a talent.”
Q: Can you kind of give us an update on the two Penn State freshmen, [Harrison] Trey Wallace and Liam Clifford, and how they’re doing?
CSB: “They both have different sets of talents, but they both are really good players. Trey has an amazing vertical. He’ll go up and get the ball, and then Liam’s route running is really incredible. They both have different sets of skills, and they both showed flashes of being really good, but right now they’re just developing to be good players. Y’all will eventually see them, don’t worry.”
Q: I know Penn State a 1-0, mentality but do you feel like a win Saturday is going to feel different considering you guys just want to get things going in the right direction?
CSB: “I mean, once you stack wins together, it builds confidence. Focusing on being 1-0 will help us stack those wins together, but we are focused on just beating Maryland. We’re not looking ahead to anything else, but if we beat Maryland, I’m sure the confidence will help. But we’re confident group all the time.”
