Penn State's quarterback duo will likely end the season on the field together. But how will the dynamic change with Drew Allar and Beau Pribula in the future? We discuss on the BWI Live Show. (Photo: USA Today)

The Penn State football team got a needed win against Rutgers on Saturday with a 27-6 beatdown. It’s also the final week of the 2023 regular season. We’re previewing the final game of the regular season by discussing what we learned from the last several days. On today’s BWI Live Show, we’re discussing what Penn State head coach James Franklin had to say about his team’s win over the Scarlet Knights this past weekend. Wealso give our impressions of the game. Check the show out here on the site or on the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel.

Penn State quarterback Drew Allar was knocked out of the game early in the third quarter on a quarterback run. How much did that affect the way the game ended? And how much will Penn State use both quarterbacks on Friday if both are healthy? We discuss how Beau Pribula’s role in the offense is expanding now that Ty Howle and Ja’Juan Seider are calling the plays.

We also discuss the team’s coordinator search and how that might evolve if Manny Diaz finds a new job as a head coach elsewhere in college football.

Penn State offense dominates the conversation

There’s no way around the fact that the drama on the Penn State offense to end the season is the main story to end the season. During his Tuesday press conference, James Franklin laid out several areas that the team improved during the shift to Ja’Juan Seider and Ty Howle as co-offensive coordinators.

“I was very pleased with how we operated from the Lasch Building and in the office and how we game planned, how the scripts were done the night before, how the cards were done early for the scout team and we could look them over and work through in detail, are these the exact looks we’re anticipating getting in the game.”

“I thought the collaboration, the environment that was created that everybody spoke up and had opinions, I thought that was really good,” Franklin said.

We’ll discuss all of the implications that Franklin laid out in the new dynamic and read between the lines of the issues that the team faced all year.

Getting quarterback right

What’s the major theme of this final week? Is it just to win? Does it matter if you can fix the Penn State passing game before the end of the regular season? We discuss the factors going into this final game against Michigan State based on what we saw in the game against Rutgers.

Finally, we’ll end the show showing appreciation for the mostly-overlooked Penn State defense.
