Penn State welcomes a four-star Class of 2022 signee to campus today
Penn State football is soon set to start summer workouts as the Maymester begins at University Park. The beginning of a new set of classes will see the Lions welcome numerous Class of 2022 signees to campus, as well.
One of the players who will kick off his academic and athletic careers in State College on Sunday is Cam Miller. The On3 Consensus four-star recruit committed to Penn State on July, 26 2021 over Virginia Tech and signed with the program back in December. Now, the versatile Jacksonville, Fla., Trinity Christian Academy corner defender is ready to start his next chapter.
“They want to move me around,” Miller told On3’s Chad Simmons. “Penn State thinks I can help them at cornerback and nickel on defense, then they like me as a kickoff returner and punt returner too. They like my versatility.
“I just want to help any way I can, so I am open to playing anywhere. Trusting the coaches was part of my decision, and I know they want the best for me.”
Breaking down Miller’s game, recruitment
Miller is one of the quieter recruits who signed with Penn State in the last cycle. He lets his play do the talking, and it does so quite loudly.
The new Nittany Lion was a quarterback at his first high school, Fernandina Beach. It may have limited his recruitment some. But, teams like Penn State saw his long-term potential. That’s because what was shown on tape is hard to teach at any position.
“The phrase “plays faster than his time” applies well to Miller,” BWI film analyst Thomas Frank Carr wrote in an evaluation when Miller committed.
“While he’s got a good speed profile, he seems so much faster on film because of his explosive closing burst. Either as a runner, or a safety filling the alley, he can get to top speed quickly out of his transition and get to the ball. That will help with the ability to drive on plays in zone coverage and break up passes.”
As a senior, the incoming Penn State defender transferred to Trinity Christan. He helped his new team to a state title and was named the Northeast Florida Player of the Year. That honor was in response to a senior season that saw Miller rack up 56 tackles and more than 750 all-purpose yards.

What’s next for the Penn State freshman?
According to those who know him best, Miller has always strived to improve his game. That hasn’t changed between the time he committed and now.
“He understands that nothing he did before this matters,” Cavonte Campbell, who trains Miller along with his brother, Ahmad Christian, at 9Figure Sports Academy, told BWI.
“He understands the high school recruitment honeymoon is over with [and] he understands the real challenge begins now and he’s embraced it fully.”
All told, the On300 recruit brings speed and versatility to Penn State. And, he hopes to put that on display right away. That’s true even if he joins a cornerbacks room with frontrunners for playing time already in place.
I love what coach Franklin is doing with the program and I love him as a person,” Millers said. “With Coach Franklin there, and the coaches and people he has put around him, Happy Valley is the place for me to be.
“It is the perfect fit.”
Offensive lineman Drew Shelton and Hunter Nourzad also enroll this weekend. Other signees are expected to join both them and the program’s nine early enrollees, as well, by the end of the weekend.
