Penn State will not lose offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki to West Virginia
Penn State offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki is not leaving the Nittany Lions for West Virginia. The first-year assistant on James Franklin’s staff was reportedly a candidate for the job vacated by fired head coach Neal Brown. But, he will not be taking the job.
“Beyond lucky to be a part of the Penn State Football Family,” Kotelnicki tweeted Monday night. “Still a lot to accomplish this season and I am looking forward to what 2025 has in store for our program.”
Kotelnicki has not yet been a head coach of a college program. He joined the Lions in 2024 after head coach James Franklin fired former play caller Mike Yurcich. Penn State is No. 25 in scoring offense at 33.6 points per game. The Lions also have the No. 15 total offense.

Penn State and SMU coaches talk Playoff matchup
“I watched them a lot more last year when we weren’t playing because Manny Diaz was the DC and a friend of mine,” SMU Rhett Lashlee said. “So when they were playing and we weren’t, you’d kind of want to pull for somebody you know. And so I just know the kind of length and speed they had on defense. I know what they do on offense. I know they got a really good quarterback, a big time tight end. And they present a lot of issues with all the different formations and looks and things they do offensively. And then I just know James Franklin’s reputation, just being a consistent winner.”
