The Penn State newsstand is live on May 5.

Thursday’s top tweets and headlines include a note on where wrestler Michael Beard has landed after exiting the transfer portal plus new football recruiting offers.

Let’s dive in.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with wrestling.

When Michael Beard entered the transfer portal last month, the onetime All-American who lost his starting spot last year still had the option of returning to Penn State. That felt unlikely to happen, however, because defending national champion and fellow 197-pounder Max Dean was also planning to wrestle for the Nittany Lions in 2022-2023.

Now, we know that Beard is definitely leaving. The Pottstown, Pa., native has committed to wrestle next at Lehigh.

“I’m proud to announce that I will be transferring to Lehigh University,” Beard wrote on Instagram.

“Lehigh is a great fit and I truly believe the coaching staff and partners will help me accomplish my goals. Time to bring a national title back to Lehigh!”

Beard has multiple years of eligibility remaining. He certainly had options to stay in the Big Ten or perhaps pick a school out west. But, Lehigh makes plenty of sense, as it’s close to home and the Mountain Hawks have a path to the mat in his weight class.

Moving on to football, Penn State sent out two new offers on Wednesday.

The Lions joined the mix for a pair of Class of 2023 standouts. One is Miami, Fla., Northwest four-star receiver Andy Jean. The other is four-star running back Dontavius Braswell of Sandersville, Ga., Washington County.

Quote of the day

“I know they’re passionate, but let’s get after it. It’s gonna take everybody, but we are here to win. And we’re here to do it the right way. But you’re all welcome in the family. Come and be loud and support all 31 teams and support everyone. These student-athletes are amazing and amazing people.

“But I think all I would say is we’re all in it together. No one does this by themselves and it takes everybody, everybody, to do it at a really high level.”
