The Penn State newsstand for Wed., March 9 is packed with new information on the Nittany Lions.

Headlines and tweets about the football and wrestling teams lead the way. But, we also have some NFL news to cover after the franchise tag window came and went on Tuesday afternoon.

Let’s dive into today’s top updates.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with wrestling.

The NCAA released its at-large bid selections for next week’s national tournament, and Creighton Edsell did not receive one. The 165-pound Penn State wrestler needed a bid to become the 10th Nittany Lion to qualify for Detroit. Instead, head coach Cael Sanderson’s team will only send nine to NCAAs.

According to a news release, the 165-pound at-large bids went to Arizona State’s Anthony Valencia, William Formato of Appalachian State, Brian Meyer of Lehigh, and Caleb Fish of Michigan State.

Penn State wrestlers will learn where they’re at in the bracket on Wednesday night. Seeds will be released at 6 p.m. ET.

Moving on to football, Penn State has missed out on another transfer portal target.

Former Georgia Tech defensive end Jordan Domineck has committed to Arkansas. The Lions showed interest in the Florida native from the moment he went into the portal. But, the chance to play in the SEC proved to be important for the defender.

Back on Tuesday, we reported that North Texas twins Grayson and Gabriel Murphy had committed to UCLA. It means that Penn State is back to the drawing board in terms of looking for defenders to land from other colleges.

We end this section with some NFL news.

Chris Godwin and Mike Gesicki will play under the franchise tag in 2022 unless they can reach long-term deals with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins by the summer. And, former Penn State receiver Allen Robinson is all but set to enter free agency after the Bears decided to not franchise tag him. Finally, DaeSean Hamilton was released and now has the chance to pick his next landing spot.

Quote of the day

“I take a lot of pride in this. One of the reasons why I’m excited to be back here is to fix a problem. … There’s times when we need to stick our foot in the ground and get vertical and get two yards. There’s times when we can press and have an opportunity to create a big play. … Also, it’s our job as coaches to scheme it up better. … Those are things that we grind through right now trying to figure out what works, and we got a good idea. I’m really confident that we’re gonna be able to run the ball next year.”

–PSU running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider to The Athletic about fixing the rushing attack in 2022.
