Penn State wrestling completes undefeated dual season, THON smashes record: Newsstand
It was a busy weekend for Penn State athletics. In addition to another undefeated season for Cael Sanderson and the wrestling program, the men’s basketball team got a much-needed win at Minnesota. Also, baseball started its season down in Miami.
We’ll recap the highlights in today’s newsstand.

Penn State wrestling wrapped up its dual meet season with another impressive win, knocking off Clarion 40-6. The Nittany Lions took a 31-0 lead before dropping their first match at 184 pounds. 125-pounder Gary Steen got a much-needed win, defeating Joey Fischer to open the dual. Roman Bravo-Young, Will Feldkamp and Greg Kerkvliet all recorded pins.
The Nittany Lions (16-0) have a week off before competing at the Big Ten Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich., March 4-5. This year’s NCAA Championships are set for March 16-18 in Tulsa, Okla.
The men’s baseball team also kicked off its season against No. 22 Miami. The Nittany Lions got a win Friday, too, defeating the Hurricanes 9-5. Pitcher Travis Luensmann threw five innings, allowing just one run with four strikeouts. Shortstop Jay Harry added two hits, three RBI and a run in the win.
Penn State lost 10-2 on Saturday, then had an opportunity to win the series Sunday. Pitcher Tommy Molsky threw five innings without allowing a run, but Miami ultimately pulled out a 3-2 walk-off victory in the ninth inning. The Nittany Lions will face Maine, Northern Illinois and Monmouth this upcoming weekend in Cary, N.C.

Penn State offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich also extended a new scholarship offer Sunday to 2026 quarterback Nathan Bernhard. A native of Ashland, Ohio, Bernhard is listed at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds. He trains with Brad Maendler, who also helps train Drew Allar.
The Nittany Lions were the first school to extend an offer Bernhard. He threw for 1,267 yards and eight touchdowns this past season.
Of course, this past weekend was also THON at Penn State. After last year’s record of $13.7 million raised to fight pediatric cancer, this year’s event surpassed that total, raising just over $15 million.

Quote of the Day
“Growing up in New Jersey, Penn State was everything to my family. We have always been ride-or-die PSU fans, so getting the opportunity to give back all that Penn State has given me is truly a blessing from God. I can’t wait to get there and continue to work and show them how proud I am to represent the school and program.”
