It’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with wrestling. Past, present, and future Nittany Lions had a terrific weekend across the country and world. The current team crushed Edinboro on Senior Day at Rec Hall. Alum Nick Lee is the Pan-American Games champion at 65 kilograms. He was joined in earning a title at that event over the weekend by Nittany Lion Wrestling Club teammate Kyle Snyder, who took the 97-kilogram championship, and current Penn State wrestler Alex Facundo, who won gold at 79 kilograms. All will continue their pursuit of a spot on the U.S. Olympic team when the team trials come to State College in April.

Back in the U.S., seven Penn State recruiting commits claimed state titles. Heavyweight Cole Mirasola won the 285-pound Wisconsin state title while his brother Connor Mirasola took the 190-pound state championship. Cole is a three-time state champ and Connor a four-time winner as they prepare to join the Lions later this year. In New York, Class of 2025 commit PJ Duke is the 160-pound Divison I champion after winning all four state tournament matches by either fall or technical fall. At the national level, future Lions Nate Desmond (120 pounds), Luke Lilledahl (126 pounds), Joe Sealey (165 pounds), and Will Henckel (175 pounds) all won Prep National titles. And, in Pennsylvania, commit Brock Weiss upset future teammate Dalton Perry in the PIAA North West AAA Regional final 9-8 while Asher Cunningham won the North West AAA Regional Championship at 160 pounds.

Quote of the day

“I thought a lot of different guys contributed, a lot of different guys scored. I thought we really shared the ball today, I thought Ace did a really good job running the show. We played good enough defense to win the game. I thought we got some big rebounds late, even on some missed free throws that were really important. So we gotta be better than we were today, we’ll go on the road next week, but I was really proud of our effort.”

–PSU men’s basketball coach Mike Rhoades after his team beat Indiana on Saturday.
