Penn State news, notes, and updates for Dec. 12 include the latest wrestling team result, plus a Utah player opting out for the Rose Bowl and much more.

It’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with wrestling. The Lions won nine of 10 bouts en route to a 31-3 victory over Oregon State on Sunday. Head coach Cael Sanderson’s team is now 4-0 on the year. Max Dean bounced back at 197 pounds to take out No. 11 Tanner Harvey 6-3. Donovan Ball wrestled for Aaron Brooks and won at 184 pounds. The Lions only loss came at 125 pounds, where Gary Steen lost to No. 12 Brandon Kaylor by decision, 4-0. Three Penn State wrestlers won by bonus points. Roman Bravo-Young and Carter Starocci won by major decision at 133 and 174 pounds, respectively, while heavyweight Greg Kerkvliet won by technical fall 18-2 in 6:08.

“I think looking at the lineups going into the dual, it had the potential to be a really good dual,” head coach Cael Sanderson said, according to PennLive.

“Our guys were able to win some close matches and kind of separate the score a little bit but each the matches were tough. They came in here and wrestled well. (Oregon State is) definitely an up-and-coming program under (head coach Chris) Pendleton. We’re gonna keep getting better as we move along.”

In other news, standout Utah tight end Dalton Kincaid will not play in the Rose Bowl. Instead, he’ll continue to recover from an injury suffered during the regular season and start preparing for the NFL Draft.

“It is with heavy heart that I announce that, due to injury, I will not play in the Rose Bowl,” Kincaid wrote on Twitter. “My plan is to rehab and prepare for the NFL draft. I will, however, still attend the Rose Bowl and support and cheer for my teammates. I am so excited to watch them compete on January 2nd.”

Quote of the day

“We had a great visit. It was me, my mom, my dad and my sister and we saw a lot. Friday, we got Raising Cane’s. That was my first time having that. We probably ate the whole day. They gave us so much food. I probably gained five pounds. But we learned a lot about NIL, we learned about academics and a lot of things. Saturday, they had practice in the morning, so I got to watch that. It was really competitive. I watched the D-line practice, so it was fun watching Dani [Dennis-Sutton] and Dvon [Ellies] and PJ [Mustipher] really getting after it. It was fun seeing them altogether out there.”
