It’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.
Penn State tweets of the day
We start with another terrific tournament performance for Penn State wrestling. The Nittany Lions crushed the field at the Black Knight Invitational, which was held at Army West Point. Head coach Cael Sanderson’s team had five champions, three of which beat fellow Nittany Lions to earn first place. Beau Bartlett beat David Evans 3-1 in the 141-pound finals. At 149, Shayne Van Ness upset (at least according to the rankings) Johnny Lovett of Central Michigan 5-3.
At 157, freshman Levi Haines beat starter Terrell Barraclough 2-1 with a late reversal and rideout. Alex Facundo majored teammate Matt Lee 10-2 in the 165-pound final. And, Max Dean beat Trey Rogers by fall in 1:15 in the 197-pound finals to cap off a day that saw the Lions senior go 4-0 with two falls and a technical fall. He was named the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler.
In other news, Penn State football lost a verbal commitment on Friday night. New Jersey four-star Ejani Shakir announced that he was backing away from his Lions pledge.
“I want to thank the Penn State fans for all the love and support throughout my recruitment process,” Shakir wrote. “With that being said, I will be decommiting from Penn State University.”

Quote of the day
“We were on the sideline, and they were both extremely angry because they just kept on wanting the ball. They want the ball so bad. They keep telling me. They’ll be on the field. ‘Give me the rock, give me the rock, give me the rock!’
“I said, ‘Hey, here’s the thing, I gotta make my read. But, I appreciate how much ya’ll want the ball.’ It’s been a while since that kind of energy.”
