Penn State news, notes, and updates for Nov. 22 include a recap of the NWCA All-Star Classic plus the latest CFP top 25 and more.

It’s time to dive into Wednesday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with wrestling. Five Nittany Lions competed in the NWCA All-Star Classic on Tuesday night at Rec Hall. The exhibition event does not count from a records perspective. But, it will help shape both the in-season rankings and postseason seedings down the road. Four Penn State wrestlers won their match. All of them did so decisively.

No. 2 Shayne Van Ness beat No. 3 Kyle Parco of Arizona State 5-1 at 149 pounds. At 174, defending and multi-time NCAA champ and top-ranked wrestler Carter Starocci rolled to an 11-0 major decision triumph over a familiar foe in Virginia Tech’s Mehki Lewis. At 197 pounds, senior Aaron Brooks, who is No. 1 in his new weight class, beat No. 3 Tanner Sloan of South Dakota State 11-2. And, in the final bout of the night, top-ranked heavyweight Greg Kerkvliet spoked Wyatt Hendrickson of Air Force by technical fall 18-2 in 4:48.

The only Lions loser was Bernie Truax IV. The newcomer and No. 2 wrestler at 184 pounds lost to No. 1 Parker Keckeisen of Northern Iowa 7-4 in a match where he tried to get his offense going but could not.

Quote of the day

There was absolutely nothing he was going to do about it; I could have done anything I wanted.

“That’s a good feeling, I’m not gonna lie. When you think about wrestling, you want to get pins because that’s the most team points, but when you just take someone’s heart, that’s the best feeling right there. You just take his soul … that’s the most gratifying.”
