Penn State tweets of the day

We start with wrestling. The Nittany Lions have added another Pa., standout to their already strong haul in the Class of 2024. Penns Valley three-time district champ and two-time PIAA placer Ty Watson committed to head coach Cael Sanderson’s program on Thursday. A two-sport star, he is Centre County’s all-time leading scorer in football, according to the Centre Daily Times. But, he will stay on the mat at the next level.

“Honestly, it was between West Virginia and Penn State,” Watson told the CDT. “It was an easier decision for me. But I just felt like the place that I chose would be way better and an opportunity for me to succeed at the higher level. I went down there (West Virginia), and I really enjoyed it. It really reminded me of around here. It was mountains, and lakes, where you could go fish, hunt or whatever. I really liked the coaches. Penn State, all of the guys were awesome. They showed me around. The coaches were really supportive and just talked me through everything.”

In other news, longtime ESPN college football reporter Heather Dinich made Penn State beating Michigan her upset pick of the week.

“Dare I pick Penn State? I dare. Michigan’s offense is fantastic, but it hasn’t faced a defense as good as Penn State’s yet,” Dinich writes. “This will not be like last year, when the Wolverines ran all over PSU. An improved defensive front plus home-field advantage gives the Nits a chance.”

Quote of the day

“It just felt more like home to me, to be right down the road. It has always been a dream of mine. Ever since I was little, I was going to Penn State matches with my dad, mom and then my brother when he was born. It’s all we do. We look forward to Penn State matches. It got me hyped up whenever I went there and watched those cool introduction videos before the matches start. It just felt like the right thing.”
