Penn State wrestling has landed a massive new addition to its already highly-regarded recruiting Class of 2024.

Top-ranked junior and U17 World Championship winner Joe Sealey has committed to the Nittany Lions. He announced the news on his Instagram page Monday afternoon.

“I am excited to announce that I am continuing my athletic and academic career at Penn State!” Sealey wrote.

“I am so incredibly grateful to my family, friends, and coaches that got me to where I am.
WE ARE!!!!”

FloWrestling has more on the standout, who it ranks as the top Class of 2024 recruit in the country.

“Sealey is coming off of a season where he dominated his way to a U17 World Championship,” Kyle Klingman writes.

“He’s the #1 recruit in the class of 2024 and, in past last year, he was third at Super 32, a National Prep champ, Powerade Champ, and Beast of the East Champ.”

Adds Earl Smith at InterMat:

“Sealey’s stock rose this spring after winning the UWW U17 World Team Trials at 71 kg in freestyle. To make the team, Sealey downed Oklahoma recruit KJ Evans, #49 overall in the Class of 2023, in two straight bouts (9-2, 15-7). Sealey took advantage of this opportunity and came home from Rome with a gold medal and a world title. At the U17 World Championships, Sealey outscored the competition 55-1 across five matches.”

Sealey continues a long line of high profiled recruiting wins for longtime Lions head coach Cael Sanderson. Penn State is again the top-ranked team in the country according to multiple media outlets and is expected to win the NCAA title again.

Penn State Class of 2024 is off to a hot start

Earl Smith notes that Sealey is not the first highly-rated Penn State commit in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

“Sealey is now the second top-five wrestler from the Class of 2024 to commit to Cael Sanderson’s team,” Smith writes.

“He joins #4 Zack Ryder (Minisink Valley, NY), a teammate on the U17 world team. At Penn State, Sealey projects as a 165 or 174 lber. There’s plenty of young talent committed or signed by the Nittany Lions in that area, but that’s a great problem to have.”

Penn State will continue to have numerous roster choices moving forward, as it continues to bring in highly-regarded talent. The Lions open the 2022-2023 season on Nov. 11 against Lock Haven. It has four dual matches plus two tournaments before the new year.
