Penn State wrestling: Latest on Braeden Davis; Lions earn nine top preseeds for Black Knight Invitational
Penn State wrestling returns to the mat this weekend when it will take a large contingent to the Army Black Knight Invitational in West Point, N.Y. The annual tournament kicks off at 10 a.m. ET on Sunday. FLO Wrestling will stream it exclusively. Head coach Cael Sanderson’s team will have most if not all of its starters on hand. However, according to Flo Wrestling, 133-pound starter Braeden Davis is not on the entries list. While that could change before tonight’s deadline, it’s unlikely to, as the Lions are likely opting to rest the sophomore after he needed injury time for a knee issue during the first period of an eventual 7-5 win over Drexel’s Kyle Waterman last weekend.
“He doesn’t have, like, a long-term, any kind of injury [like] that,” Sanderson said Tuesday. “But just determining whether it makes sense. Each day is a day that he’s getting better. So we’ll see where we’re at by the time it’s time to leave.”
The projected decision to allow Davis two weeks to recover before Penn State takes on Lehigh in Allentown on Dec. 8 makes plenty of sense. Per Flo, the Lions will enter Gary Steen, Kysion Garcia, and Timothy Levine on Sunday. That will not be official until weigh-ins are complete. But, as of now, Steen is the No. 3 in the preseeds at 133 pounds.
