Penn State wrestling has a pair of matches today. On Sunday, former Nittany Lions had superb outings in the NFL. One even did something for the first time in his career.

Those stories lead today’s newsstand but are hardly the only things to know about college football and Penn State on Dec. 20.

Let’s dive into the updates.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with former Penn State linebacker Jason Cabinda. If you didn’t know, he’s now a fullback with the Detroit Lions. On Sunday, he scored his first career NFL touchdown in Detroit’s win over the Arizona Cardinals. Amani Oruwariye also had an interception for the Lions in the victory.

Elsewhere around the pros, Dallas and Micah Parsons beat Squon Barkley and the New York Giants. Finally, Blake Gillikin punted nine times for an average of 45.8 yards and put four inside the 20-yard-line during the Saints’ 9-0 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Next, we will note that nine members of the Penn State football roster graduated on Saturday.

Finally, the Penn State wrestling team takes on Northern Iowa at 7 p.m. tonight at the Collegiate Wrestling Duals. Then, at 9 p.m., the Lions face Cornell. Head coach Cael Sanderson’s team will also wrestle a to-be-determined opponent on Dec. 21.

“Healthwise, we’ve got everybody back now, and I think everybody feels pretty good,” Penn State wrestling assistant coach Casey Cunningham told reporters last week.

“By Monday, we’re going to be ready to rock and roll.”

Rofkin is streaming the matches on a pay-per-view basis. Its service costs $9.99 monthly or $99 annually.

Quote of the day

“To my teammates, I want to thank you all for all the memories we’ve had, and I appreciate you all for believing in me while we battled on the field. You all are my brothers and I’m always a call or message away, To Coach Franklin and my coaches, thank you all for taking a chance on someone from Louisa, a small town in Virginia where almost nobody gets out and is given the opportunity to do what I have been able to do at Penn State. The past three years of my life have given me the opportunity better myself in many ways, on and off the football field.

“With that being said, I am going to forgo my senior year and the bowl game and enter the 2022 NFL Draft. I will continue to work hard and do my best to represent my school and my family to the best of my ability on and off the field.”

PSU linebacker Brandon Smith as he opted out of both his senior season and the bowl game to enter the 2022 NFL Draft.
