Penn State wrestling is one of four schools still in the running for two-time Iowa state champ and Class of 2026 star Dreshaun Ross. The No. 3 recruit on MatScout’s junior big board is now down to the Nittany Lions, Oklahoma State, Iowa, and Iowa State, he said on Instagram Monday night. He has already taken official visits to see the Cowboys, Hawkeyes, and Cyclones but has yet to make it to State College. Whether he will at some point this month is not immediately clear. There is also no set decision timeline.

Ross, who has won state championships at 195 pounds and 215 pounds, had shoulder surgery this summer. That caused him to miss the U17 World Championships and also most of the football season. He is a three-star linebacker, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. The Hawkeyes and Cyclones have both offered him on the gridiron and the mat, though he told Flo back in the summer that he was undecided on which sport he wanted to pursue at the next level or if he might try and do both. His list of wrestling accomplishments is already outstanding, though. He is the only freshman to ever win an Iowa Class 3A state title at a weight heavier than 160 pounds, per Flo.

“Ross ran through the 195-pound class as a freshman with a pin, a major decision and a pair of seven-point victories,” Andy Hamilton writes. “He captured his second state title in February by pinning his four opponents in a combined 6 minutes, 39 seconds. He spent a grand total of 11 seconds on his feet during the 215-pound title bout this year and scored three takedowns during that time.

“In April, he captured the 92-kilogram title at the U17 World Team Trials by outscoring his opponents by a combined 64-4 count.”

Penn State push is on in the Class of 2026

The Lions will undoubtedly try to get Ross to campus. Last weekend, they hosted the only two wrestlers who are in front of him on MatScout’s board, No. 1 Bo Bassett and No. 2 Jax Forrest, for official visits. Bassett won’t decide until sometime next ear. Forrest may be in the same boat. But, Penn State put their best foot forward with both Class of 2026 starts over the weekend.

Besides those two, Penn State also hosted Florida heavyweight Michael Mocco for an official visit. The No. 8 Class of 2026 recruit was in town back in September. So, too, was No. 10 Tyler Dekraker. A Virginia native, he has been active taking visits and the future 141-pounder could decide by the end of November.
