Penn State wrestling: Lions move up in latest rankings, including a new top-five entrant
Penn State wrestlign saw a few of its wrestler move up in the latest national rankings for the week of Dec. 12. One Nittany Lion even jumped into the top five at his weight.
Head coach Cael Sanderson’s team is 4-0 after beating Oregon State 31-3 last Sunday at Rec Hall.
“I think looking at the lineups going into the dual, it had the potential to be a really good dual,” Sanderson said, according to PennLive.
“Our guys were able to win some close matches and kind of separate the score a little bit but each the matches were tough. They came in here and wrestled well. (Oregon State is) definitely an up-and-coming program under (head coach Chris) Pendleton. We’re gonna keep getting better as we move along.”
Beau Bartlett was the biggest mover this week. He jumped from No. 9 to No. 5 in InterMat’s 141-pound top-30 after beating No. 24 Cleveland Belton by decision, 5-3. The Penn State wrestler is now 8-0 on the year while competing in a new weight class that is decidedly better for him than 149 pounds, which is where he wrestled the last two seasons. Bartlett expressed plenty of confidence before the season began, and it’s been so far, so good, for the third-year Lion from Tempe, Ariz.
