Penn State wrestling now has the longest dual meet winning streak in Big Ten history. The Nittany Lions won seven of ten matches at Illinois on Sunday to win the conference’s regular season title while also picking up their 70th consecutive victory. The final score was 29-9. They need seven more wins to pass Oklahoma State’s 76. That is the current NCAA leading mark. With just one match to go this season, the team cannot do that this year. But, it could accomplish it sometime next year.
“Another road win, that’s always good, and our team is looking good,” Penn State’s senior Carter Starocci said post-match on the B1G+ broadcast. “That’s kind of what is important for us is how our energy and efforts are looking.”

Starocci beat Edmond Ruth after the Fighting Illini wrestler was disqualified for stalling.
“But for me it’s always on to the next one and that’s something that Coach Cael and our coaches help me grow through that kind of stuff and kind of mature into the man I am today “ Starocci said. “Things are always going to come in life, whether if you can’t wrestle at a certain event or; it really doesn’t matter. It’s always about looking ahead. It’s not so much about wrestling Edmond this time, it’s setting yourself up for the next time. That’s how I approach my matches.”

Quote of the day
“He’s the best defensive coordinator in college football. If you watch his body of work and what he does situationally, how he utilizes personnel, you look at red zone defense, you look at third-down defense, some of his packages, his pressure schemes, how he attacks protections, he’s really good. … The kids at Penn State are gonna get somebody who also cares about them as people.”
