Penn State Cael Sanderson wrestling updates
Penn State wrestling news from Blue-White Illustrated.

Three Penn State wrestlers who were part of the Team USA contingent at the U20 Pan-American Championships won men’s freestyle titles on Saturday in Lima, Peru. Incoming freshman William Henckel won the 79-kilogram division while redshirt freshmen Cole and Connor Mirasola took home gold at 92 and 125 kilograms, respectively.

“The Mirasola brothers, who attend Penn State, both won three matches in a round-robin competition,” USA Wrestling writes in a recap. “Every match by the Mirasola brothers ended as a 10-0 technical fall, and all of their matches were finished in the first period. Connor’s fastest technical fall came in 32 seconds, while Cole’s fastest technical fall was in 51 seconds.

“Henckel, who will be a freshman at Penn State, won his first two matches by technical fall. In the finals, Henckel secured a 9-0 decision over Leandro Araujo of Brazil.”

All three will compete for Team USA at the U20 World Championships this September in Spain. Here are their full Pan-Am results courtesy of USA Wrestling. USA Wrestling also won the team race 230-153 over Canada.

Penn State target Landon Sidun announces his top 12

Top Penn State wrestling target Landon Sidun announced his top 12 schools days after an incorrect report said he committed to the Nittany Lions. Head coach Cael Sanderson’s team is on the list, of course, as his recruiting process continues. Iowa, Virginia Tech, Pitt, Minnesota, Ohio State, Nebraska, Cornell, N.C. State, Buffalo, West Virginia, and Oklahoma also made the cut. The Class of 2027 prospect is in no rush to decide.

“I’m not going to rush it, but let’s just say I meet with everyone, and I’ll commit when I know where I need to be,” Sidun told the Locked on Lions podcast this week. “I’ll sit down with my family, think about pros and cons, and that’s when I’ll make my decision.”
