Penn State news, notes, and updates for Nov. 14 include wrestling results from the Bearcat Open at Binghamton University, plus the opening point spread for the Lions’ matchup with Rutgers and also a football roster update.

It’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with wrestling. Twelve Nittany Lions competed in the Bearcat Open, which featured a mixture of college wrestlers and also unattached grapplers. Freshman Connor Pierce finished second at 141 pounds to lead the Penn State contingent on hand. The four-time PIAA placer lost in the finals to a non-collegiate wrestler, and so his college mark stands at 4-0.

Other results include:

  • Senior Konner Kraeszig was third at 174 pounds
  • Sophomore David Evans won five consolation matches to finish fifth at 141 pounds.
  • Levi Haines finished fifth at 157 pounds.
  • Lucas Cochran was third at 197 pounds.
  • Joe Lee made the fifth-place bout at 165 pounds but was out of matches, so he could not compete for that placing.
  • Graduate senior Levko Higgins was fifth at 197 pounds.
  • Donovon Ball was fifth at 184 pounds.
  • Karl Shindledecker finished was 2-2 at 125. Brian Borden and Jack Kelly picked up wins at 157 and 174, respectively, but did not place. Marco Vespa also competed at 125 pounds.

In other news, the opening spread is out for Penn State-Rutgers. The Lions and Scarlet Knights meet at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday in Piscataway, N.J. Head coach James Franklin’s team is a 19-point favorite. The betting total over/under opened at 44.5 points. Weather is not expected to be a factor for the game. It will be a cool day as is expected for mid-November, but rain or wind do not currently project as a problem.
