Penn State news, notes, and updates for Jan. 22 include the Lions’ 50th consecutive dual meet win, a football nugget, and more.

It’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with wrestling. Penn State now sits 17 wins away from breaking Oklahoma State’s consecutive dual meet winning streak. The Cowboys won 79 straight from 1937-1951. The Lions now sit at 50 after blasting Michigan State on Sunday 35-0 in East Lansing. It capped off two wins in three days for head coach Cael Sanderson’s side, which also beat Michigan 27-9 on Friday night.

In other news, FOX analyst Joel Klatt calls the Lions football team a top-10 group early in 2024.

“At least for two years now, I’ve been talking about this class that was sophomores now is going to be true juniors, that is going to be formidable, to say the least,” Klatt said. “This was one of James Franklin’s best recruiting classes that are about to be juniors. And so here we go. And this is a team that maybe more so than any other throughout the country is excited for the 12 team format.”

“James Franklin’s biggest flaw is not winning the Big Ten since the 2016 season and making the playoff. But they have the quarterback in Drew Allar and the 12-team bracket gives the Nittany Lions an opportunity. It’ll just be a more loaded Big Ten with the four former Pac-12 teams coming in.”

Quote of the day

“Energetic is definitely one of the first words that come to mind. I think him getting here during the bowl prep has been huge for him, just because he’s been able to get around the coaching staff and get himself familiar with them and how they operate as a staff.

“Also, just getting around the players and having meetings with us and kind of get to know us more when we’re in the building, and kind of get to know us away from the field as well. I think that’s been very beneficial to [him]. I love being around him. He brings a really positive mindset to the offense and a lot of energy. I’m very excited for him to be here.”
