Penn State wrestling is set for its final double dual weekend of the regular season. What is not clear as of Wednesday, however, is whether or not the Nittany Lions will have all 10 of their starters available for matches at Ohio State on Friday and Illinois on Sunday. The Blue-White Illustrated wrestling show is back to discuss last weekend’s two wins, the latest on the Lions’ injury situation, and what’s on the horizon for head coach Cael Sanderson’s team.

Reporter Greg Pickel and host Thomas Frank Carr start this week’s episode with a look back at last weekend. Penn State shutout Michigan 39-0 on Friday. Then, it beat Maryland 35-10 on Sunday. What did we learn from the two victories? The duo discusses that as the Lions took their 67th and 68th consecutive dual meets.

From there, the conversation moves on to the injury front. Braeden Davis, the starter at 133 pounds, missed another two matches and has now sat out the team’s last three due to injury. Tyler Kasak, meanwhile, had to injury default out of Sunday’s bout with Terrapin Ethen Miller. It’s not yet clear if either will be available this weekend.

“We have time to help him get back to full speed,” Sanderson said about Kasak, per PennLive. “He’s a tough kid. If it were up to him, he’s going. He’ll be good to go at some point here.”

Sanderson added on Davis:

“There are different kinds of injuries, right? There are season-ending injuries and there are things that are going to be a nuisance for him at the nationals, like Carter (Starocci) dealt with last year,” Sanderson said, per PennLive.

“We don’t have what we feel like are anything like that. So I think Davis, there’s a good chance he’ll wrestle this week, and there’s a chance he won’t wrestle this week. If it were the Big Ten tournament, he would be ready to rip and roll, he’d be good to go.”

What could happen if either or both are out of the lineup? Pickel and Carr discuss that.

The show closes with a look ahead to a Friday night match with No. 5 Ohio State before traveling to No. 19 Illinois. The top bout in Columbus will feature No. 1 Jesse Mendez vs. No. 3 Beau Bartlett at 141 pounds. Mendez beat the Penn State senior in both last year’s national final and also at this season’s NWCA All-Star Classic. No. 5 Carson Kharchla vs. No. 2 Levi Haines at 174 has big-time postseason seeding implications. Other bouts could be listed here, too, but we’ll cover those Friday. What can fans expect from Penn State this weekend? The show closes with thoughts on that.
