A new episode of the Penn State wrestling show from Blue-White Illustrated is now live! Host Thomas Frank Carr and reporter Greg Pickel have plenty to discuss as the Nittany Lions are amid the Big Ten portion of their schedule while a marquee event for next season is drawing plenty of discussion locally and nationally.

This week’s edition starts with a recap of the Nittany Lions’ 31-7 win over Nebraska. Penn State won eight of 10 matches and racked up plenty of bonus points in Lincoln. But, the effort wasn’t perfect in the mind of the program’s legendary head coach.

“Obviously Nebraska has a great team and really good coaches,” Cael Sanderson said on Monday. “So, yeah, it was a nice environment. You expect it’s going to be a big match, and you get a lot of lot of good information on what we can do better when you see that kind of competition. So we didn’t wrestle great, but we wrestled, I guess, well enough. But more importantly, we can just kind of take that experience and grow and learn from it.”

How should fans interpret Sanderson’s message? Carr and Pickel discuss.

From there, the show moves on to the recently announced National Duals Invitational. It will feature 16 to-be-determined teams next November in Tulsa, Okla. Will Penn State be one of the teams who is both invited and accepts the opportunity? Here’s what Sanderson said about the idea Monday:

I don’t really feel any differently now than I do about it 10 years ago, right? I mean, I think you can create a big event without including every team in the country, right?

“It’s sad that we think we have to have the National Duals to create a big event. I mean, we have a lot of really exciting teams, a lot of programs. So does that have to be at the National Duals? That just seems to be the mentality that they’re coming back and it resurfaces all the time. I think there’s obviously some merit to the idea, but it’s just kind of like a broken record.”

Carr and Pickel give their thoughts on what that means in terms of the question asked above.

Last but not least, the show ends with a preview of Friday’s Penn State-Rutgers match in Piscataway, N.J. It starts at 8 p.m. ET on the Big Ten Network.
