Penn State tweets of the day

We start with wrestling. Blair Academy senior William Henckel is the National Prep Champion at 157 pounds. He beat Maximus Norman by fall at the 3:38 mark of the final to earn his second such crown. Henckel is No. 16 on MatScout’s big board for the Class of 2025. He projects to compete in the upper weights at the next level. Fellow Class of 2025 signee Marcus Blaze does not, But, the Perrysburg, Ohio native will be bumping up two weight classes for the postseason. According to The Toledo Blade, injuries in the Perrysburg lineup mean that Blaze moving up to 150 pounds gives the team its best chance to qualify every weight at the Ohio state tournament. So, the 138-pounder did what his team needed and moved up. He started the postseason with a winning day at sectionals.

“He is such a competitor and loves his team so much that he is willing to put everything on the line for us [to] potentially have success,” Perrysburg coach Scott Burnett told The Blade. “Marcus is special and will be able to handle and deal with being small for the weight. I never bet against Marcus Blaze. He is the greatest high school wrestler ever.”

Blaze, who is No. 3 on MatScout’s big board for the senior class, has already won Ohio State titles at 113, 120, and 132 pounds. He now aims to be Ohio’s 34th four-time state champion, at a new weight, of course, before moving on to Penn State. In State College, he projects to wrestle at 141 pounds.

Quote of the day

“That was my first time ever, like not being with the team and away games and stuff like that, so I would talk to my dad and stuff. It would get to me mentally a little bit, be at home and watch the games on TV, because I’ve never done that before. I’ve always traveled to but it comes with it. I had to deal with that.

“I was still supporting the team from afar, texting the group chat, a lot of games going on. They come back to their phone, seeing me blowing up their phone.”
