The No. 1 Penn State wrestling team faces its final Big Ten foe of the regular season today. Unranked Maryland, which is fresh off a victory over Purdue, visits Rec Hall for a 1 p.m. ET dual. The Lions, of course, just blew out Rutgers 33-8.

“There are 80 Division 1 programs and 79 of us are trying to figure that out,” Scarlet Knights coach Scott Goodale said when asked how teams can close the gap on the Lions, per NJ.com.

“Some are closer than others, and we’re really far off. It’s a lot of talent, it’s a great program. It’s recruiting, recruiting, recruiting. We have to bring in guys to match that, and it’s a hard thing to do.”

Maryland is in a similar boat. Penn State will be heavily favored. Get ready for the penultimate home match of the year with our preview below.

Lions-Terps projected starting lineups

As always, these are subject to change before or during the match. However, here’s the projected lineups:

125 pounds: Gary Steen, Penn State vs. No. 15 Braxton Brown, Maryland

133 pounds: No. 1 Roman Bravo-Young, PSU vs. Connor Quinn, UMD

141 pounds: No. 6 Beau Bartlett, Penn State vs. Kal Miller, Maryland

149 pounds: No. 13 Shayne Van Ness, PSU vs. No. 18 Ethan Miller, UMD

157 pounds: No. 8 Levi Haines, PSU vs. Michael North, Maryland

165 pounds: No. 9 Alex Facundo, Penn State vs. John Martin Best, UMD

174 pounds: No. 1 Carter Starocci, PSU vs. Dominic Solis, Maryland

184 pounds: No. 1 Aaron Brooks, Penn State vs. Chase Mielnik, UMD

197 pounds: No. 3 Max Dean, PSU vs. No. 13 Jaxon Smith, Maryland

285 pounds: No. 2 Greg Kerkvliet, Penn State vs. No. 25 Jaron Smith, UMD

What will the top bout be?

First things first: We’ll see if every Penn State starter is in the lineup this weekend. Bravo-Young sat out at Rutgers. He should be back to face the Terps. But, that’s no guarantee. Then, at 184 pounds, it will not be a shock if Donovan Ball gets the call instead of Aaron Brooks. Other backups could find their way into the lineup, as well.

With all that said, the bout of the day is obvious. It comes at 149 pounds, where Shayne Van Ness meets Ethan Miller. ‘SVN’ will be favored in the top 20 matchup. However, it figures to be the dual’s closest bout, barring surprise lineup decisions, as Penn State should be able to rack up plenty of bonus points to secure a Big Ten regular season title.
