Penn State wrestling returns to action on Friday when the top-ranked Nittany Lions host No. 4 Michigan inside the Bryce Jordan Center at 7 p.m.. It is one of two times this season head coach Cael Sanderson’s team will wrestle at home but away from Rec Hall and kicks off a two-match weekend that also features a Sunday dual with Michigan State.

“Michigan obviously has a very good team and Michigan State also has a very good team,” Sanderson said Tuesday.

“I mean, Michigan won by a big margin [25-10 when they met Jan. 13], but very competitive matches all the way through. Michigan State has a strong team. Both matches are going to be competitive.”

285 pounds: No. 1 Greg Kerkvliet vs. No. 2 Mason Parris, UM

What will the top bouts be?

Penn State is favored to win. But, that doesn’t mean this dual won’t be a thriller. Roman Bravo-Young is expected to be in the lineup to take on Dylan Ragusin, who has struggled at times this year, yet again. Shayne Van Ness has the chance to continue making a case to be in the top 10 by adding another ranked win. Then, of course, there is the curiosity surrounding whether Levi Haines or Terrell Barraclough will wrestle at 157 pounds. Our gut says the former will get the call. At 165 pounds, Alex Facundo has an upset chance against Amine.

The top bout of the night, however, is the obvious one: No. 1 Greg Kervliet vs. No. 2 Mason Parris at heavyweight. It’s the fifth time the two have met. The Nittany Lion holds a 3-1 advantage after sweeping a trio of meetings a year ago. Can Parris exact revenge? We’ll see.

Other storylines to follow, notes to know

–Penn State leads the all-time series with the Wolverines 34-24. It has won the last 11 dual meets between the two.

–Sanderson is three wins away from his 100th dual meet victory at Penn State. If the Lions sweep this weekend’s slate, he could earn it opposite Iowa next Friday night back in the BJC.

–Some tickets for the Michigan match remain, but most are singles, Sanderson said Tuesday.
