Penn State Wrestling Show 8-7

The first dual date is set for Penn State wrestling in 2024-2025. Ironically, it may end up being the last regular season match for the Nittany Lions before the postseason begins. EIWA program American released its schedule for the upcoming college season on Wednesday. It will travel to Rec Hall for a meeting with head coach Cael Sanderson’s team on Fri., Feb. 21. Match time is set for 7 p.m. ET.

We heard “iron sharpens iron!” American head coach Jason Borelli said when announcing the matchup earlier this year. “Excited to announce that @AU_Wrestling will be taking on the returning NCAA champions, @pennstateWREST, this upcoming season in State College. Curious, what’s the biggest dual meet upset you recall in college wrestling?!”

The Eagles last came to State College during the 2019-2020 season. Vincenzo Joseph, Mark Hall, and Shakur Rasheed all won by fall on Senior Day. Penn State earned a 40-3 triumph to close out that year’s regular season. It is likely that this will be the final dual meet of this year’s regular season, as well. Sanderson has long scheduled a non-conference foe on Senior Day to give his team one final tune up opportunity before Big Tens. A date for the annual conference tournament has not yet bene set. But, the timing lines up for American to be the final dual meet opponent of the year.

Penn State will release its full 2024-2025 schedule later this year. But, non-conference dates like this one will start leaking out now. Eventually, the Big Ten will release home and away opponents. Dates will be assigned closer to the season. The Lions did not release their full slate of competitions a year ago until mid October.

Penn State wrestling is set for the Olympics

Men’s freestyle wrestling gets underway Thursday at the summer Olympic games in Paris, France. Five Nittany Lion Wrestling Club members are in the competition. Roman Bravo-Young, wrestling for Team Mexico, starts his tournament at 57 kilograms Thursday morning. Aaron Brooks, who holds the Team USA 86-kilogram spot, also starts his tournament on Aug. 8. On Aug. 9, NLWC member Kyle Dake starts the 74-kilogram tournament.
