It’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with wrestling. The Nittany Lions had five individual Big Ten champions. Braeden Davis (125 pounds), Levi Haines (157), Mitchell Mesenbrink (165), Aaron Brooks (197), and Greg Kerkvliet (heavyweight) won championships and made the All-Big Ten team. Penn State qualified nine wrestlers for NCAAs. Three-time champ Carter Starocci, who medically forfeited twice, did not automatically qualify for a chance to win his fourth but is all but guaranteed to receive an at-large big when those are announced on Wednesday. Cael Sanderson is the Big Ten Coach of the year. Mesenbrink is the Big Ten freshman of the year. Brooks is the 2024 Big Ten Championship Outstanding Wrestler and the 2024 Big Ten Wrestler of the Year. And Penn State set a school record with 170.5 team points, which made for a large gap between it and second-place Michigan.

“It was a great effort,” Sanderson said to PennLive. “I mean, the Big Ten finals are pretty similar to the national finals. It’s just great preparation for our guys and we’re very grateful to be in this conference with these quality wrestlers.”

Penn State will head to the NCAA Championships next weekend. And, seeds come out for it this week.

In other news, Penn State defensive tackle Jordan van den Berg has officially entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. Blue-White Illustrated first reported that he was no longer on the roster two weeks ago.

Quote of the day

“The one way to have energy and momentum going into the next game is to take it with you from the last game. So, today was an example that. I thought so many guys contributing, it gives you a little confidence and it gives you some juice to go into this.

“We’re playing with house money going to Minnesota. So that’s the approach we want to have and tonight was a good example to make yourself feel good about it. Not cocky, but confident and energized.”
