Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi: 'We'd love to play Penn State if they would play us': Newsstand
Penn State news, notes, and updates for July 24 include Pat Narduzzi’s latest wishes for the Pitt-PSU series to return, headlines of the day, and more as the Nittany Lions prepare to appear at Big Ten Media Days. It’s time to dive into Wednesday’s top tweets and story about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.
Penn State tweets of the day
We start with Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi’s latest comments on the fact that the Nittany Lions and Panthers do not have any future games scheduled. The sides last met in 2019. Head coach James Franklin’s team sits amid a three-game winning streak in the series. All time, Penn State holds a 53-43-4 advantage. The ACC school would race to play the Big Ten program again if they could. The latter, however, is in no such hurry to do so. Narduzzi’s latest comments, which are similar to other ones he’s made in recent years, came in response to a question about West Virginia returning to Pitt’s schedule this fall.
“Great to have that rivalry back,” Narduzzi said at ACC Media Days. “We embrace rivalries. We embrace rivalries. We’d love to play Penn State if they would play us. If they won’t play us, we’d love to play West Virginia as many times as we could play them. They’re coming back to Pittsburgh.
“Our kids couldn’t be more excited.”
In other news, Penn State athletic director Pat Kraft also spoke on Tuesday. He did so before head coach James Franklin, redshirt senior+ defensive tackle Dvon J-Thomas (former Dvon Ellies), senior safety Jaylen Reed, and senior tight end Tyler Warren talk with reporters on Wednesday in Indianapolis. “Their program is top-notch and they have a lot of talent. I really enjoy the nerdy stuff, like nutrition and the weight room,” Brown said. He’s built a strong rapport with head coach James Franklin, offensive line coach Phil Trautwein and many others. Their staff is excellent too.”
