Projected Penn State printable depth chart: Rutgers week
Penn State football no longer provides an official depth chart. So, Blue-White Illustrated has taken up the task of projecting one each week, presented here as a printable file.
And, once again, with injuries still spread amongst the Penn State roster, it’ll likely come in handy on Saturday afternoon.
Set to face Rutgers in Piscataway, N.J. (3:30 p.m., BTN), the Nittany Lions could see a host of backups in top spots on both sides of the ball.
Defensively, Joey Porter Jr. missed last weekend’s game against Maryland with what head coach James Franklin described as appendicitis. Franklin did say that Penn State expects to have Porter Jr. again this season, but did not specify when.
“Like I mentioned last week, Joey Porter had a nonfootball specific injury and there has been some miss-reporting out there. I don’t understand how that happens, but it did, so I will get into the specifics of this one so it clears it up,” Franklin said this week. “But Joey had appendicitis. That’s what happened.

“Obviously I wouldn’t release any medical information without clearing it with the family first, but I don’t like the fact that there has been some miss-reporting out there. I don’t really understand how that happens. It did, so I wanted to clear it up.”
On the other side of the ball, chaos has been constant particularly up front. Landon Tengwall was acknowledged as lost for the season due to injury, left tackle Olu Fashanu has been out with an unspecified injury since the fourth quarter of the Ohio State game, Caedan Wallace has missed the past three games, and bumps and bruises have had the likes of Hunter Nourzad and Sal Wormley limited at times this month.
What will the Nittany Lions’ look like if any of those pieces are again not in place for Penn State’s showdown with the Scarlet Knights?
