Rising Penn State senior center Yanic Konan Niederhauser has taken another step in his NBA Draft journey according to a new report. Per Jon Chepkovich, the 7-footer is among a group of players to be selected to the G League Elite Camp.

The camp is set to run from May 9-11 in Chicago with details on it’s significance. From the NBA:

“It is a two-day event that gives NBA Draft prospects an opportunity to showcase their skills in front of NBA and NBA G League scouts, coaches and front-office executives. The athletes will participate separately in five-on-five games and strength and agility drills.

“A select number of players from the draft-eligible group will be invited to participate in the NBA Draft Combine later on in the week based on their performance in the NBA G League Elite Camp.”

Konan Niederhauser declared for the NBA Draft on April 2, maintaining his eligibility to return to college basketball for a fourth and final year in 2025.

Yanic Konan Niederhauser continues development

Even before his arrival into the program last summer, Penn State head coach Mike Rhoades saw in Konan Niederhauser a player with a drive to improve. Through his first year with the Nittany Lions, Konan Niederhauser backed it up, earning All-Big Ten honorable mention recognition for the effort.

“You hope when you bring guys in, freshmen, transfers, whoever, guys come in your program, that they’re hungry. They have hunger to get better. They have urgency to get better. And I just felt really good about when we were recruiting Yanic, that he wants to really get after, work at it,” said Rhoades. “And he really has. He’s very coachable. I think that’s helped.”

Improving through the course of the 2024-25 campaign, Konan Niederhauser parlayed the work into the best production of his career. He finished with 12.9 points over 25.1 minutes, shooting 61.1 percent from the floor and complementing it with 6.3 boards, 0.8 assists, and 2.3 blocks per game.

“He had ability. We all saw that from day one. But I just think he picked the right place that could utilize his skill set, the style of play, a versatile big guy, he was able to show that off. He made a great decision,” said Rhoades. “He has a hunger to get better. And when he’s had good days, he’s built on it. When he’s had a bad day or a bad game, he’s taken it to heart to get better. I think his approach being here, from June 6 of last year, is the reason why he’s turned into a player at this level that he has. And I think he’s hungry to do it at even to a higher level, which is refreshing.”
