Saquon Barkley is the AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year. The Lions legend won the honor on Thursday night during the ‘NFL Honors’ award show in New Orleans. It’s the first time he’s taken home that trophy. He beat out Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and receiver Ja’Marr Chase plus Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back Derrick Henry.
Barkley and the Eagles are now just three days away from facing the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. The running back totaled 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns during his first regular season in Philadelphia. He has since dazzled in the Playoffs. Barkley also won Offensive Player of the Year honors from both The Sporting News and the Pro Football Writers’ Association.
“I’d like to say he’s exceeded expectations, but he’s always been one of the best players I’ve ever seen whenever I’ve watched him and I have always known about what kind of person he is because it’s not hard to find that out,” Eagles GM Howie Roseman said this week, per ESPN. “So I’m really not surprised by any of this, and I don’t say that in an arrogant way, it’s based on who he is, nothing to do with me, because this is who he’s always been. And I’m just glad everyone gets to see that.”

Quote of the day
“He’s a great coach and he knows how to develop your bag of skills as an edge rusher. We got to watch two whole games of film, which was awesome. Also, Chop [Robinson] and Abdul [Carter] are both guys who went or are going in the first round who have the same measurables as me. So, they definitely know how to work with guys like me. It definitely was everything I expected and more, and I look forward to coming back.”
