See Penn State players, and coaches in action during the final week of spring practice: Photos
Penn State football held its final open practice before the Blue-White game back on Thursday. Our second photo gallery of the week shows you more of the action.
The first focused primarily on the offense. Below, you’ll find a link to photographer Daniel Althouse’s images, which include running backs Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen, the quarterbacks, and January enrollee Joey Schlaffer, who is a tight end, among others.
Before we get to those, though, we offer a closer look at the defense from the Lions’ April 11 practice.
Leaders of the band
It’s no secret that second-year defensive coordinator Manny Diaz is looking for new leaders this spring. After all, someone must replace Ji’Ayir Brown, Joey Porter Jr., and PJ Mustipher, among others.

Our camera didn’t capture all of the possibilities — cornerback Kalen King, end Chop Robinson, and safety Keaton Ellis, for example, missed our lens this time around — but we did catch some other possible leaders of this year’s defense. Check them out below.
A look at a few Penn State young guns
If Penn State wants to be the best version of itself on defense in 2023, it will need some younger players to step up. We’ve all heard by now how big freshman linebacker Tony Rojas is now compared to when he arrived in January. He’s pushing for playing time, just as the others young players you see below are.
