Indiana Hoosiers head coach Tom Allen reacts during the NCAA football game against the Ohio State Buckeyes at Indiana University Memorial Stadium. Ohio State won 23-3.

The Penn State Nittany Lions hired a familiar face to run the team's defense in 2024. Former Indiana head coach Tom Allen is very familiar with the Big Ten East, as he's competed in the division with the Hoosiers for the last eight seasons. While fans are familiar with Allen, we're taking a deep dive into his schemes, philosophies, and some of the challenges he faced in Bloomington.   Also, head coach James Franklin stated this offseason that how a coordinator performs against his toughest competition is part of the criteria for hiring offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki. So, it makes logical sense that we'd start our review of Allen by looking at his performance against Penn State's chief rivals, Ohio State and Michigan.  Today, we'll look at how Allen held the Buckeyes' offense to just ten points in the first half of the team's opening game of 2023.
