Earlier this offseason, we looked at the players with the highest upside on the Penn State roster. These were players who have the physical skills to be future first-round draft picks regardless of current output. Today, we’re shining a light on the players that performed the best for Penn State football last season. These players execute their assignments at the highest level regardless of overall physical talent. Honorable mention: Joey Porter Jr. The polarizing cornerback gets a lot of heat for his brash personality that doesn’t quite match his production at this point. The holding penalties towards the end of last season and some untimely personal fouls against Ohio State drew the ire of fans that don’t watch his work unless he’s on camera. And how could you? The reality is that Joey Porter Jr is an excellent coverage corner that needs to fine-tune some things to take the next step into stardom. He’s excellent at staying in phase with the receiver throughout the route and is asked to do so against some of the best receivers in the country. His issues mostly stem from his play at the catch point.
