Top 25 OL Darius Gray locks in early official visit dates with Penn State and others
Penn State will welcome back one of the best offensive line prospects in the country Saturday in Richmond, Va., native Darius Gray. However, that’s not the only visit that the St. Christopher’s School prospect has set to State College.
On Tuesday, Gray confirmed with On3’s Hayes Fawcett that he’s also already locked in five official visits for this upcoming summer. Penn State will be the second-to-last school that hosts him, June 17-19. That’ll also be a midweek visit, Tuesday to Thursday. Before that, he’ll go to Clemson (May 31 – June 2), Tennessee (June 7-9) and LSU (June 14-16). The final visit he’ll take is to South Carolina, which will take place June 21-23.
Back in the fall, On3 national recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong logged a pick for the Gamecocks to ultimately land a commitment from Gray in On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine. On3’s Chad Simmons followed that up about a month later.
However, Penn State with four months to go until he begins those visits, there’s still plenty of time for Penn State and his other top schools to win him over. The Nittany Lions last hosted Gray for an unofficial visit back in March to watch a spring practice. As mentioned, that’ll change on Saturday, and his upcoming visit will be Gray’s fourth trip to State College overall since October 2023.

“Being up in Happy Valley, you can’t go wrong,” Gray told Wiltfong back on Jan. 3 when he announced his top schools. “Everybody around the area are huge fans. Everybody in Pennsylvania goes to the Penn State game. When you have a game everyone in the state all comes to one area, that’s what you want to play for.

“It definitely starts with Coach [James] Franklin. He’s a guy who pushes his team and brings a lot of energy to practice and different things. They have a great coaching staff and great players around that makes you go a long way.”
Gray is currently ranked No. 25 nationally by On3. He currently holds a four-star rating, but if he stays within the top 32 players nationally, Gray will eventually end up being a five-star prospect when rankings expand. On3’s rankings will expand to 20 five-star players next month, then climb to 32 in July.
“I am feeling great about Penn State,” Gray told On3’s Chad Simmons earlier this month Gray. “I’m a strong believer that once the time comes, PSU will be a school that I’m considering going to for my college football career.”
