Penn State news, notes, and updates for Jan. 27 include a new mock draft with good news for Abdul Carter, headlines of the day, and more. It’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

Daniel Jeremiah, who is considered one of the nation’s top NFL Draft experts, put out his first 2025 mock draft over the weekend. Penn State All-American Abdul Carter has not been shy on social media about his belief that he should be, and will be, the first overall pick. The NFL Network analyst agrees. He sends the defender to Tennessee with the top selection.

“My ears perked up when Titans president of football operations Chad Brinker said the team wouldn’t pass on a generational talent with the first pick,” Jeremiah writes. “To me,  Carter is the best player in the draft and he plays a premium position. I could see Tennessee looking to add competition for QB Will Levis in the free-agent market or later on in the draft.”

Penn State last had a player go at 1.01 in 2000 when another former Lions defender, Courtney Brown, went in the top spot to the Cleveland Browns.

Jeremiah also has tight end Tyler Warren going in the top 10. He sends the All-American to the New York Jets at No. 7 overall.

“Warren is one of my favorite players in this draft,” Jeremiah writes. “He will be popular with his quarterback and running backs as a difference-making in-line tight end.”

Quote of the day

“Penn State hiring Jim Knowles away from Ohio State as their new defensive coordinator is a significant move. Knowles has a strong track record of developing top-tier defenses, and his experience at Ohio State will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to Penn State. This hire could potentially elevate Penn State’s defensive unit, making them more competitive in the Big Ten. It also shows Penn State’s commitment to investing in a high-caliber coaching staff to enhance their program. Overall, I think it’s a strategic and impactful hire that could pay off in the long run for Penn State.”
