Penn State fans will find out next week where one of the staff’s most important defensive line recruits will end up. On Thursday, St. Joseph’s Prep defensive lineman Alex Haskell confirmed on social media that he’s set to announce his commitment next Friday, May 9.

While Haskell sits just outside of four-star territory with an 89 overall rating, the 6-foot-4, 265-pound defensive tackle has been a key target for Deion Barnes for over a year now. According to On3’s Visit Center, Haskell has taken more visits to Penn State than any other school dating back to June 2023. In addition to the Nittany Lions, he included Duke, Michigan and Syracuse among his top four schools but eventually dropped the Blue Devils after Manny Diaz and his staff added a few defensive tackles.

It’s also notable that Haskell visited both Michigan and Syracuse only one time each before this upcoming decision. His trip to Syracuse took place over a month ago, March 22-23. He then went to Penn State, April 3-5, followed by a weekend in Ann Arbor, April 10-12.

“The defensive line should end up being a big part of the Nittany Lions’ Class of 2026, as the crop at both positions is good regionally in the cycle,” wrote BWI’s Sean Fitz back on April 22. “Penn State still feels it is in a good position for St. Joseph’s Prep defensive tackle Alex Haskell, who is one of the few dominoes that will eventually fall before official visit season.”

According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, Penn State has a 55.1 percent chance of landing Haskell’s commitment, which is the highest of any team. On3 has him ranked No. 26 nationally at defensive tackle and No. 12 overall in the state of Pennsylvania for the Class of 2026.

Penn State has added five new commitments to its Class of 2026 since March 25. That includes Delaware native Isaac Chukwurah, a 6-foot-2, 260-pound three-star defensive lineman who committed to the Nittany Lions back on April 22. In addition to Chukwurah, Penn State also holds a commitment from four-star edge rusher Daniel Jennings from Princeton, W.Va.
