INDIANAPOLIS — Penn State news, notes, and updates for July 27 include a final look back at the Nittany Lions’ time at Big Ten Media Days.

It’s time to dive into Thursday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with the most discussed topic of the offseason: The Penn State quarterback position. Head coach James Franklin is not ready to name a starter with preseason camp set to begin.

We’re still in a competition phase. Obviously, there’s a lot of people talking about Drew Allar and what he brings to the table. He was able to get a ton of experience last year, played in, I think, ten games. So, I understand why the excitement is there, 6’5″, 242 pounds, can make all the throws, but Beau Pribula is a guy that everybody in the program has a ton of respect for as well. So that’s going to be an interesting competition throughout the entire camp.”

That was the headline news of the day. A decision will be made as soon as possible, but it also won’t be rushed.

Franklin also said he believes this year’s Penn State team has fewer question marks than last year’s. But, some areas to figure out include the wide receiver and secondary depth charts and also numerous specialist spots. He also talked about the season finale featuring the Lions playing Michigan State at Ford Field for the first time.

It’s going to be a great environment. And obviously being indoors that time of year, there’s a real positive that comes from that too.

“We’ve had great games against Michigan State. We’re looking forward to that as well. But you’re exactly right, there’s a lot of time between now and then, which also allows us to prepare and be ready for it.”

Quote of the day

“We interviewed him, and it was probably one of those interviews where you interview somebody to basically cover your bases. We interviewed him, and a bunch of established college coaches, we interviewed him, and a bunch of established NFL coaches, and he blew them all away. He dominated the interview. From that point on, I started looking at Deion as a legit candidate for this position.”
