Penn State news, notes, and updates for March 27 include a top target’s finalized announcement plan, practice takeaways, and more.

It’s time to dive into Wednesday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with recruiting. Royersford, Pa., Spring-Ford Class of 2025 top 50 prospect and four-star quarterback Matt Zollers has finalized his decision details. The senior-to-be will pick between Missouri, which he visited last week, Pittsburgh and Penn State, who he will see later this week, and Georgia, who he visits next week, and Alabama on April 4 at his high school. The announcement will take place at 3 p.m. ET. Currently, Penn State leads in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. But, the Tigers, Panthers, and Bulldogs all have a chance to pass the Lions over the next week and a half.

“The biggest thing about Penn State is who is in the [quarterback] room,” Zollers previously told On3. “Coach Danny O’Brien just got promoted to quarterbacks coach and they also have Coach Andy Kotelnicki as the offensive coordinator. He has coached quarterbacks too, so getting two different points of view would be great there. They are great minds that work well together and I feel I could get developed.”

In other news, Penn State opened part of another spring practice to reporters on Tuesday night. We learned that the receivers are still waiting for someone(s) to separate from the pack. We also heard that safety Jaylen Reed is standing out as the leader in the clubhouse for the ‘Lion’ or nickel back position in Tom Allen’s defense. As head coach James Franklin noted earlier in the evening, though, it’s far too early to make any truly definitive calls about position battles and even most depth chart ordering. That all will come in time.

Quote of the day

“The guys love him. He’s been awesome as a teammate. He’s been really coachable. I don’t want to speak for Julian. But it seems like it’s been really good in terms of just energy, morale, and expectations. He has been great. He has been a really good addition. I know that he’s earned the coaches’ and the players’ trust and respect pretty quickly.”
