Penn State basketball’s top Class of 2024 targets are well represented in the updated On3 rankings, released Monday afternoon. And, in some cases, those targets have enjoyed significant climbs in the latest reveal.

At the forefront of that new reality is Thomas Sorber, a four-star center out of Philadelphia’s Archbishop Ryan. Previously ranked No. 117, the fast-rising junior has attracted a slew of recent attention including offers from Virginia, Syracuse, Miami, Seton Hall, and St. John’s as he’s played well in his first season in Northeast Philadelphia.

Now, he’s got a ranking that reflects that climb. Unveiled at No. 43 in the updated evaluations, Sorber is among the biggest risers throughout On3’s list. Sorber was on hand for Penn State’s game against No. 1 Purdue on Sunday night at the Palestra in Philadelphia.

Top On3 rankings risers

Sorber isn’t the only high-priority prospect to see a big bump in the latest On3 rankings.

Also included on On3’s list of big climbers in the updated rankings, four-star shooting guard Jalil Bethea jumped from No. 128 to No. 72. Also on hand for the game at the Palestra, Bethea has been one of Penn State’s highest priority recruits in the Class of 2024, and now also bumped up from three-star status.

On multiple occasions this season when discussing transfer wing Andrew Funk, Penn State head coach Micah Shrewsberry has pointed to his alma mater, Archbishop Wood, to refer to his program’s ongoing relationship with the school. “He comes from a great high school program that we would love to recruit and get guys from there if they would happen to have more,” Shrewsberry said last week. In Bethea, as well as Class of 2025 combo guard Deuce Maxey, also in attendance at the Palestra game on Sunday night, that is undoubtedly the case.

Other top Penn State Class of 2024 targets

Sorber and Bethea are not Penn State’s only Class of 2024 four-star targets in the updated On3 rankings. North Hills power forward Royce Parham remained steady at No. 57 in the latest reveal, dropping two spots from No. 55, as the Nittany Lions continue to heavily recruit the son of former Lady Lion basketball star Kim Calhoun.

Other Penn State Class of 2024 recruits of interest in the On3 rankings include Drew McKenna, a four-star small forward out of Gleneig in Baltimore. McKenna was an unofficial visitor for Penn State’s White Out game against Minnesota at Beaver Stadium in October. McKenna is up one spot from No. 82 to No. 81 in the updated rankings.

Outside the Top 100, small forward Dwayne Pierce has an offer and checks in at No. 103, having earned an offer from Shrewsberry in late August. Additionally, three-star point guard Daquan Davis appears at No. 135, having taken an unofficial visit to Penn State in early October.

And, small forward Sir Mohammed rounds out Penn State’s targets in the On3 Top 150 at No. 137. He is a three-star prospect according to On3 but is higher-rated according to his industry comps, appearing in the On3 Consensus as a four-star ranked No. 91 overall. One of Mohammed’s two unofficial visits this fall was to Penn State.

Matthew Gilhool, one of the initial top targets for Penn State in the Class of 2024, also on hand for Sunday night’s game, dropped out of the On3 rankings from his spot at No. 131.
