Penn State tweets of the day

We start with a complete recap of the Nittany Lions’ first and only day at Big Ten Media Days in Indianapolis. The annual unofficial kickoff event to the season concludes today with the third and final group of teams. Wednesday’s top talking point as it relates to head coach James Franklin’s team was his response to where the Lions are entering his 11th season, which is the first with an expanded 12-team College Football Playoff.

“You’re talking about a program that you can win 10 or 11 games and people are not happy or satisfied,” Franklin said. “We totally get that and embrace that. Our players understand that when we recruit them, our staff understands that when we hire them and, as the head coach, I embrace all of those things as well. “We’ve got to play our best when our best is needed most. In the biggest games, at the biggest moments.”

Franklin also touched on Penn State All-Big Ten defender Abdul Carter. The Lions moved him to defensive end this spring but will be flexible with his position in the fall on a game-to-game basis. Find his full quote on that topic below.

Quote of the day

“At the end of the day, you’re talking about one of the most explosive, physical athletes in all of college football. We think he has a chance to make a significant impact. Week to week, we’ll decide where he’s going to have the most impact for us, whether it’s going to be at defensive end or at linebacker. This spring, he stayed mostly at defensive end to get comfortable with that. Then after that, we had a really good conversation, and he’s open to doing both. That will also put us in a position where people can’t game plan and know exactly where he’s going to be on defense.”
