It’s time to dive into Thursday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start by talking about practice.

Penn State was back on the field Wednesday for its latest preseason camp date. The Lions will scrimmage on Thursday. Yesterday’s drill work featured mostly individual position drills and ball security work while reporters were on hand. But, we did see corner Johnny Dixon intercept a Christian Veilleux pass during a two point conversion attempt.

Head coach James Franklin said that he was pleased with where things are after the availability. However, he did note that some Penn State players hit a wall during the day’s drills as installation of offensive and defensive schemes begins to stack up.

“We’re doing some creative things on defense, and we’re doing some creative things on offense, and that causes some challenges for the young guys,” Franklin said.

Big Ten Network was also on hand for more of practice. You can see some of their top clips below.

In other news, the Penn State Class of 2023 is back up to 18 verbal commitments after the Lions landed four-star receiver Carmelo Taylor on Wednesday. He announced the news via his Instagram page.

A 5-foot-11, 150-pound receiver, Taylor also took official visits to South Carolina and Virginia Tech in addition to the Nittany Lions.

Finally, for this section, Penn State Class of 2023 quarterback target Jaxon Smolik decommitted from Tulane on Thursday morning.

Quote of the day

“I think he’s made significant strides in the weight room, from a speed perspective as well. He’s had tremendous production as we all know, and tremendous production if you go back and look against Big Ten opponents. So, I think it’s going to translate very well for him. But I do think this spring and summer were really good for him in terms of getting a little bit stronger and a little bit faster.”
