Penn State tweets of the day
We start with the NFL. There are two nuggets of note. The first is that former Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley has a new home in the professional football league. The New England Patriots on brought him in on Thursday, per ESPN. He will play under Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien, who of course left the Lions, which cleared the way for James Franklin and McSorley to come to Penn State.
Elsewhere in the pros, onetime Lions cornerback Joey Porter Jr., is one of 17 prospects set to attend the NFL Draft in Kansas City, Mo., two Thursdays from now. Also of note, another former Lion, Will Levis, will be there, too.
“It’s definitely amazing that I am going be the first,” Porter Jr., said. “I’m going to go down in history at Penn State. So, that’s something I can come back and show my kids that. Definitely a special moment. I’m going to be the first, and really just set the tone for what’s coming behind me.”

In other news, the NCAA has made a massive change to its FBS recruiting model. Prospects will no have unlimited official visits, though they can only take one per school. But, the previous maximum of five will be no more as of July 1. However, schools can still only host 56 official visits per cycle. So, this will change some, but not a ton.
Beyond that, coaches can now have contact with recruits during the evaluation period. Fall evaluation days are being reduced from 42 to 33. Additionally, 28 days are being chopped off of the spring evaluation period, as well. Juniors can now receive phone calls from coaches starting on June 15 following their sophomore year. Previously, it was Sept. 1. And, the infamous “bump” rule is going away. So, coaches can actually have contact off-campus with juniors starting on Jan. 1 of the prospect’s junior year.
