Former Penn State defender Tyrece Mills entered the NCAA transfer portal at the end of the Nittany Lions’ 2024 season. Now, he’s decided where he will finish his college career. The Philadelphia native is moving on to UCONN, On3’s Pete Nakos reports. Mills takes with him 17 career tackles, 15 of which came this past season, and an interception with him to the Huskies. He entered the transfer portal back on Jan. 14. Per Nakos, Maryland is another school Mills considered. It’s unclear if the list of suitors extends beyond those two programs.

It’s unclear which position Mills will play for the Huskies. He spent time at safety and linebacker after joining the Nittany Lions out of Lackawanna Community College.

Penn State now has just one player left in the portal. It’s former receiver Mehki Flowers, who has not yet picked a school after leaving the Lions earlier this year. Otherwise, all of the other one-time members of the roster have found their next landing spot. Here’s the list:

TE Jerry CrossMemphis
QB Beau PribulaMissouri
CB Cam Miller: Rutgers
WR Trey WallaceOle Miss
Tyrece Mills: Undecided
WR Omari Evans: Washington
DT T.A. Cunningham: Garden City Community College.
WR Mehki Flowers: Undecided
WR Tyler Johnson: East Carolina

Players will again have the chance to leave Penn State or come to the school when the 10-day spring transfer portal window opens this year. So far, the Lions have landed six transfers who all arrived for the spring semester. That group includes receivers Kyron Hudson (USC) and Devonte Ross (Troy), one-time Texas A&M defensive lineman Enai White, former Texas A&M offensive lineman T.J. Shanahan, one-time Michigan defensive lineman Owen Wafle, and safety King Mack, who returns to PSU after spending one season at Alabama.

Penn State has yet to set a date to start either spring practice or winter workouts. It is among the favorites to compete for next season’s Big Ten and College Football Playoff titles, though. And, some media members even call it the nation’s No. 1 team entering the 2025 season, which will mark James Franklin’s 12th in State College. It starts opposite Nevada on Aug. 30.
