After having only one commitment coming into June, the Penn State secondary class for 2025 is nearly complete. The team added its second safety this week, with late-rising prospect Braswell Thomas joining the Nittany Lions during his official visit. Recruiting insider Sean Fitz sits down to discuss how Braswell Thomas earned his spot in the class and what to expect from Thomas during his career.

Now is a great time to subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube! We’ll be breaking down each prospect as they commit to the program this summer, so you don’t want to miss our breaking news videos.

Thomas takes the Peter Gonzalez route to Penn State

Much like 2024 wide receiver Peter Gonzalez, Thomas came into June without a committable offer to Penn State. He showed up at the team’s first prospect camp of the month and put on an impressive display of athleticism that eventually earned him an official invite to the team’s final official visit weekend of the summer. Thomas used that opportunity to commit during the same visit as four-star prospect and national talent JaDon Blair.

But this story is about Thomas, the second safety position coach Anthony Poindexter picked up this week after Florida prospect Antonio Branch chose the Nittany Lions on Monday night.

Fitz shares some of the impressive improvements that Thomas made to his testing numbers in order to get his invite from Penn State. We also discuss how he projects to his position at Penn State from what we can see on film. Notably, he’s an excellent leaper and has great ball-tracking skills.

However, how does he play the run? Fitz discusses that and compares the transition to the one that most tight ends make going to the college level.
