Penn State pulls upset in transfer portal thanks to new leadership

Wednesday was another eventful day for the Penn State football team, with former high-four star receiver Malik McClain deciding to leave Florida State and join the Nittany Lions. It’s not just that the staff landed a quality receiver prospect; how they got McClain is essential. Fitz and Bauer start by discussing the evolution of the Penn State administration and its support of the football program. Next, Bauer discusses how McClain’s transfer request was handled. Now, the administration is providing different kinds of support to football and the other 30 sports teams in expediting the transfer process.

From there, Bauer asks Fitz to detail what McClain brings to the team. He also wants to know how McClain compares to one-time portal commit Devin Carter. All of this happens with the backdrop of assistant coach Taylor Stubblefield’s firing on Sunday evening. They discuss how that situation is going and just how tight-lipped Penn State is about the hiring process.

But it’s not all good news; Penn State lost several players that will be tricky to replace, including running back Keyvone Lee and backup quarterback Christian Veilleux. They discuss the complete list of outgoing transfers.

But was this portal season a win?

Finally, they try to conclude the events of this portal window. Was this portal season a success? Penn State missed most of its top targets and struck out entirely at defensive tackle. Is the combination of Storm Duck, Dante Cephas, and McClain enough to call this a win? Fitz gives his thoughts.

They finish the show by updating fans on the new enrolees at Penn State and what sort of first impression they made on the staff. Fitz highlights the standout players who tested well or showed progress since the last time they were on campus.
