Watch 4-star WR Lex Cyrus pick between Penn State and South Carolina
HARRISBURG — Four-star Susquehanna Township wide receiver Lex Cyrus has picked South Carolina over Penn State inside of his school’s auditorium this afternoon.
Cyrus, the nation’s No. 219 player overall and No. 26 wide receiver according to the On3 Industry Rankings, whittled his list to the Nittany Lions and Gamecocks after multiple unofficial visits plus one official visit to each school during a recruitment that dates back to January of 2022. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound pass catcher has developed a strong bond with each school. But, he can only pick one, of course.
“They keep telling me that I’m their guy and that they really want me,” Cyrus told BWI when asked about Penn State in May. “My relationship with them is really good. We’re always talking. All the time.
“They keep stressing to me that I’m a Penn State guy and keep telling me that I’m their top priority and that they don’t want to let me get away. They think I really fit the culture there as well and can be a guy who makes an impact.”
Head coach Shane Beamer’s program has pitched a similar message.
“With South Carolina, all the facilities and stuff are great, but they were really stressing what’s important to them, like family and their culture and being locked in,” Cyrus told BWI when asked about the Gamecocks. “So, I learned that they have a fun team mentality and really make sure they’re bonding, but when it’s time to get on the field, they want you locked in. They were really showing me what ways I can help them and were breaking it down. They really did a great job showing me that it’s a place I want to be.”
Running updates from Lex Cyrus’ announcement ceremony
3:10 — The four-star tells @On3Recruits “being on campus and talking to all the coaches and being around the team, it felt like the most comfortable place and the place I wanted to be at.” He says Gamecock fans are getting someone who’s ready to make plays in the SEC.
3:08 p.m. — After a brief video, four-star receiver Lex Cyrus has committed to South Carolina over Penn State. He did so by having his family reveal Gamecock T-Shirts under their sweatshirts to a round of applause in the school’s auditorium.
